The Citizens' Advice Bureau provides free, confidential, impartial and independent advice and information about your rights and responsibilties. They can give advice on many issues, including debt, employment, benefits, housing, neighbour disputes and relationships. Their trained advisors can assess your situation and provide you with information on the different options available to you, and possible outcomes.

The CAB can:

  • Help you to negotiate with companies or service providers, for example, creditors
  • Help you to appeal against decisions, for example, welfare benefit claims
  • Write letters on your behalf
  • Help you to prioritise your problems in order for you to identify a way forward, for example, sorting out which are your priority debts
  • Help you fill in forms
  • Represent you in court or at a tribunal
  • Refer you to a specialist caseworker or an outside agency, if appropriate
