15 - 22 JULY 2017

castleton silver band for bamfordWe all have our fingers crossed that the weather will be kind to us for Bamford Carnival Week. As ever, this week will be full of fun activities that bring the community together and displays that splatter this picturesque village with colour.

Everyone looks forward to Bamford Carnival Week as the entire village throws itself into making this lots of fun for the whole family. There are events such as dog shows, fell races, team challenges, pub quizzes, cinema nights, bingo, folk nights and barbecues - and we haven't even got to Gala Day yet!
crowd 1Carnival Week is always building up to Gala Day, which normally takes place on the third Saturday of July - good, traditional family fun.  Beginning with the crowning of the Gala Royalty and assembly of the floats, we watch a striking procession assemble to march through the village before we begin to sample some of the many fun activities on offer.
The children look forward all year to the Fancy Dress competition and well they might with the great prizes to be won. Then take a moment to see which float won Best Dressed before following the procession down to the Recreation Ground.
gala duck raceGala Day is always packed with fun for everyone. There have been bouncy castles, climbing walls, stalls and displays, face painting, miniature trains, craft tents, duck races, pram races, raffles, attractions and rides and much more plus music from the likes of Castleton Brass Band, Pantonic All Stars Steel Orchestra and Chesterfield Musketeers as well as dancing displays from groups such as Cloud 9.
Whatever this year's entertainment will be, it will be accompanied by delicious food and drink - a range of refreshments, plus a hog roast, candy floss & ice cream and a licensed bar. Perhaps it will be rounded off with a beach party in the evening. You'll have to wait and see.
Make a weekend of it with the Kids Fun Afternoon after Gala Day, with games such as Wacky Races and Rounders. Or see if there's a car treasure hunt again this year.

bamford carnival gig in the pub
Previous years entertainment has included “Gig in the Pub”.  Organised by Bamford Community Arts and Crafts group and hosted by The Yorkshire Bridge, it has been a popular addition to village life in recent years, drawing talented musicians and singers from across the Hope Valley.
