bluebell wood hospiceBluebell Wood Children’s Hospice? Is that for us and our area?

Well yes. Bluebell Wood is one of only 53 children's hospices in the UK. We care for over 200 children and young people in our hospice and in the community from across South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, North Nottinghamshire and parts of North Lincolnshire. The Hope Valley is a part of those regions and therefore a part of our community family. Children and families from the Hope Valley are cared for and supported at Bluebell.

bluebell wood hospiceOur highly specialist care team look after children and young people with a vast range of complex medical needs. Our children have all been diagnosed with life shortening conditions so we provide treatment, support, advice and end of life care in a loving environment.

We also support the whole family on their life journey offering respite care, day care provision, community support and 24 hour urgent response. Sibling support is also at the heart of our work; as well as counselling and bereavement services, hospice at home and befriending.

We run 250 sessions a month for children and their families. These include play and music therapy, bereavement counselling, sibling support groups and a range of therapies.

It costs over £3 million a year to provide this vital service to children, young people and their families, and we receive less than 10% government funding. But that’s not the worst news… We are told that there are approximately 500 children and their families who need our support in our area but we only know about 220! We need to get the word out.

This is why our community and its wonderful volunteers are essential to our work in providing for families who receive the worst news possible.
