Peak Cavern

peak-cavernAlso known as "The Devil's Arse", due to the variety of noises to be heard from within, The Peak cavern boasts the largest natural cave entrance in the country.  For over 400 years a community lived and worked inside this cavern, making ropes for the local lead mines.

From the entrance, known as The Vestibule, travel down the passageway open to the public, "Lumbago Walk", so called because of the need to walk along it bent over!  Experience The Great Cave and 'Roger Rain's House' with its water cascade and end your journey in the passage named 'Pluto's Dining Room", where you will be able to hear the rush of the 'Inner Styx'.

The remainder of the cavern is accessible to cavers only. Titan Shaft was discovered in 1999. At 145m, the deepest pitch in Britain.
