There's a little bit of Wimbledon Spirit in all of us! There may well be a budding Tim Henman or Andy Murray just waiting in the wings, perhaps even now practising their serves in a Hope Valley tennis court, who knows?
Whether you are a seasoned player or you've never picked up a racquet before, there are plenty of opportunities for a quick match in and around Hope Valley.
Bamford Lawn Tennis Club welcomes new members both adult and juniors. They have 4 outdoor hard courts, one of which benefits from floodlights so the dark winter days don’t have to stop a good game.
Junior coaching is every Friday when budding Wimbledon players are put through their paces! They also have club nights and excellent facilities in the clubhouse. To find out more telephone 01433 651559.
Whaley Bridge, a little further away, also has their own tennis club for over 18s of any ability at the Whaley Bridge Sports Ground. Club nights are every Monday. For more information contact Gail on 01663 735414.
If you just want a game without paying membership fees then head along to Manor Park, Glossop or Ashwood Park, Buxton, both of which have tennis courts that are open to the public.
Many of the leisure centres in the Peak District have indoor sports halls that can be used for tennis when the weather is bad or you just fancy a burst of exercise. You’ll have to pay a small fee but if you haven’t your own tennis equipment then this is the best option for you. You can always pretend that you’re at Wimbledon with the covers overhead!
Chatsworth Park, just outside nearby Bakewell, has 100 acres of glorious parkland for you to enjoy. The perfect place for a game - just bring your own strawberries and cream!
And should you ever make it to the finals yourself, just remember where it was you first fell in love with the great sport.
